Job summary
MISSION:
The Junior Financial Accountant plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting and finance functions of the organization. Reporting to the Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager: Responsible for accurately recording financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and assisting in various accounting tasks. This entry-level position serves as a stepping stone for gaining valuable experience and advancing in the accounting career.
TASKS:
- Accurately entering and recording financial transactions in the general ledger and accounting software;
- Ensuring the proper classification and coding of expenses, revenues, assets, and liabilities;
- Reconciling bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial records;
- Assisting in processing accounts payable invoices, verifying supporting documentation, and ensuring timely payments to vendors;
- Assisting in monitoring accounts receivable, generating customer invoices, and following up on outstanding payments;
- Supporting the month-end and year-end closing processes by preparing journal entries and adjusting entries;
- Assisting in reconciling accounts, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues promptly;
- Preparing and assisting in the generation of financial statements, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements;
- Assisting in the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders;
- Conducting basic financial data analysis, such as variance analysis and trend analysis, under the guidance of senior accountants;
- Helping interpret financial data and provide insights to support decision-making;
- Ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal controls;
- Maintaining proper documentation of financial records and transactions for auditing purposes;
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities by assisting in data gathering and analysis;
- Helping in the preparation of budget reports and variance explanations;
- Assisting in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the financial accounting system;
- Collaborating with the IT department to troubleshoot and resolve accounting software issues;
- Suggesting process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations;
- Participating in implementing changes to accounting procedures and policies;
- Collaborating with other departments to obtain necessary financial information and resolve interdepartmental issues.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field;
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices;
- Familiarity with accounting software and MS Excel;
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry;
- Analytical and problem solving skills;
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities;
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a fast paced environment.
